MOTS-c is a mitochondria-derived peptide encoded within the 12S rRNA region of the mitochondrial genome, investigated for its interactions with mitochondrial bioenergetic pathways and nuclear gene expression. It has been studied for its observed effects on AMPK pathway activation, fatty acid oxidation regulation, and folate cycle metabolism at the cellular level. Research has examined its interactions with mitochondrial membrane dynamics and metabolic gene expression networks in experimental models.
